Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the age of Show Business, by NEIL POSTMAN. New York: Peguin, 1985. Viii+184pp. $12.95
Its forms excludes the content."
- "the medium is the message" (p.8)
- "I must, first, demonstrate how , under the governance of the printing press, discourse in America was different from what it is now-generally coherent, serious and rational; and then how, under the governace of television, it has become shriveled and absurd." (p.16)
- "We now know that "Sesame Street" encourages children to love school only if school is like "Sesame Street"." (p.143)
- ""Sesame Street" does not encourage children to love school or anything about school. It encourages them to love television." (p.144)
So what?
